Frequently Asked Questions
This section covers the typical doubts and inquiries many aspiring medical tattooists have, offering helpful insights and support to ease the transition into this fulfilling career path.
-
How long does it typically take to complete one course? While each course ranges in complexity, the average student takes about 1 to 1.5 months to complete most courses from start to finish and earn certification.
-
Other courses are only 3-4 days long. How come yours is so long?Have you learned anything in 3 days? Honestly answer that question. Let alone working on people with skin disorders, surgical scars, basic skin anatomy, color theory, pigment theory, laws and regulations, ink theory, tattoo pen and needle size, shapes, types and variations, safety and sanitation equipment set up and breakdown, aftercare and adverse effects. Our courses also adhere to the National Tattooing (NIC) Examination which is the standard (and required) to become a licensed practitioner for many states. Many states require that you pass the NIC exam, CPR and BPP exams upon application. Many 2-3 day courses does not include enough content or hours required for licensing. 2-3 day courses rely on permanent make-up licensing and only offers technique guidance and does not train you on core principles, safety, or how to get properly licensed. Most states ONLY care about health and safety when it comes to proper licensing. Our training manual for all courses are over 800 pages with the average course consisting of 300 pages of coursework. It is not easy as you are led to believe and that is why not everyone can charge $500 an hour for this type of work and have a full 7 day working schedule. You get what you pay for when it comes to proper training.

I don't have any experience, can't draw or do any art, will I be any good doing this? Our Founder and Lead Practitioner, Evan Lee, was a corporate paralegal for 10 years before he got in this industry. Our top students include nurses, doctors, an air-conditioning mechanic, a nail technician, and even a retired grandmother. There are no prerequisites to start taking our courses. Other than a passion to learn and help people, and an unwavering will to learn - you will excel at medical tattooing. After all, what we do is not about art, but about concealment and hiding what we don't want people to see.
-
How much does the equipment cost? It's not included in the training price? We are educators and instill knowledge. We do not make any money trying to sell our students fancy equipment with our brand logo on there nor do we rebottle ink and charge students $75 a bottle like other course providers. We train you and we train you very well. Think of Gordon Ramsay as a chef. He is so skilled that he can cook up an amazing dish whether it's in a fancy kitchen with all the latest kitchen gadgets, or whether he's in a tiny fishing village in Thailand with a pan and some oil. We teach our students how to differentiate inks, what type of needles to use, what machines work best and while we make recommendations on which machines to purchase (usually $150 and below), our students are armed with knowledge to pick what they like and purchase what works for them. Be Gordon Ramsay and cook anywhere in the world no matter your setting.

Can you break down the training time and the hands-on portion of the class? Our course is progressive, meaning you get 1 chapter to review and study. You get a quiz at the end of the week, pass it and move on to the next chapter. It gets progressively harder and we will do live video lectures via Zoom or Google Meet, and, if needed, one on one with each student for sections that may be harder to grasp. After all, everyone learns at their own pace and we understand that. Our instructors are here to help every step of the way through. Once all of the basic theories are covered, we start doing exercises, using the proper techniques, mixing inks and working on silicone skin. Once all students are comfortable with working on silicone skin and practice, we would then schedule the 3 day hands on portion of the training.
-
Where will the hands-on training location be and what does it entail? The hands-on training will be at one of our offices - either in Sacramento, California or Houston, Texas. Students may pick whichever location is closest to them. The training begins on Friday and lasts thru Sunday evening. Most students who travel fly in on a Thursday and fly home either Sunday evening or Monday morning. Unlike other training courses where you get 3 days training with the coursework and hands-on training all at the same time, we ONLY do live model work in the hands-on portion. Our Founder, Evan Lee, trained and worked for over a year in a clinical setting. That's why our training is modeled the same way. You must work in a clinical office setting to learn properly. Students will see what it's like to meet a client, do a consultation, set up client forms, discuss treatment plans and expectations, preparing the work space, perform the actual procedure, breaking down and cleaning up workspaces, and more importantly, working on numerous models and clients with different types of skin issues back to back, each and every day. Experience requires an array of different type of work and will encompass everything you have learned through your coursework.

I want to learn everything! Can I combine courses together?Yes and we definitely recommend and encourage it. Many courses can be combined to not only save you money, but it will also save you a lot of time for the hands-on training, traveling and hotel accommodation costs. For example, the average course requires 3 days. If a student takes 2 different courses, that's 2 trips and 6 days total. If 2 courses are combined, we can schedule many of the procedures together and most students can do a total of 4 days hands-on instead of 6. That saves us time and in turn, saves students in tuition, travel and airfare costs and fees as well. So we definitely encourage students to take and combine as many courses together as possible.
-
Once I complete the course, do you provide post-training support or work placement?Yes and yes! You will learn about all the rules and regulations, requirements of setting up your office, how to fill out consent forms, pre and post procedure forms, as well as how to market and run your own office. We also help with post course completion and client support. If students run into issues or a special client case, we are always available to consult and help well after you graduate.
-
Do you do payment plans?Yes and we will help you every step of the way through. Whether you are taking one course or multiple courses, we have many lenders and payment plan options. Borrowing money to make a purchase versus borrowing money for school and tuition is very different. Many banks and lenders offer no fees or interest free plans or really low rates for most students, no matter your credit history because you are investing in your knowledge and not a new purse or car. After all, this field is extremely specialized and there are very few really good providers that can offer what we can offer. Contact us today and let us help you get that dream career you have been waiting for.
-
Do you take financial aid or grants?Unfortunately not. We are considered a vocational school and are a private entity that teaches very specific and skilled courses. We can help with most financial situations so feel free to contact us for guidance.
-
Can you take Veterans Associations assistance?Yes! We love our veterans and will help you get financial aid through your local state's Veterans programs. We are an approved institution with many Veteran's programs so please contact us to see if you are qualified.
